I’m a second-career engineer. As a union stagehand I had an appreciation for the strength of the steel on which I was hanging lights and rigging in the Van Andel Arena. I went back to school to get a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering at U of M.
I like that the people here treat each other like adults. We are self-regulating. The structural engineers I work with know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, so we collaborate well together.
There is a diverse group here that includes women engineers, and I am happy to see more women coming in to the profession.
Outside of work:
We have three kids in scouting. I am a cub scout den leader and my husband is the leader of Thornapple Pack 3634. We do a lot of family tent camping, especially in Manistee National Forest.
